Well the last 2 weeks have been really good, I am trying a new event for six months and i am so excited about it. Heptathlon is an event with seven individual events in it. It involves 100m hurdles, High Jump 200meters, Shot Put, Long Jump, Javelin and The dreadful 800m at the end.
I have chosen this new event to add variety in my training to keep me motivated and stay excited about my sport.
After I came back from europe after the world championships, I was really down and really not motivated to train at all. I had a whole week off training when i started feeling like this to think about what i wanted out of this sport. I knew that my ultimate goal is to win an olympic gold medal and i know that i have the potential to achieve this, so i started thinking of ways to overcome my feelings and that is how i came up with heptathlons. I have always wanted to try a heptathlon at least once and i thought well why not go out there and give it a go, so I have and i have not looked back.
I have only been training for 2 weeks for the heptathlon and my first competition is on the 21st of november and it goes over 2 days so it is going to b interesting how i go.
I have now got new challanges to look forward to and that is competing for points and not just thinking abut who i am competing against. The thing is with heptathlons is, it is based on a points scheme, the faster you run, The higher you jump or the furher you throw, the more points you are going to get. Aiming to get these points is going to be a real challange for me as i am not as naturally talented at all the events specially the shot put and the high jump, i am not exactly the tallest person in the world. The national champs are on at the start of April and that is most likely going to be my last heptathlon for a while anyway.
So that is pretty much what is going on at the moment ill try my best to get some photos up of me doing some of these events in my next blog. Till then enjoy. love sal
